How to Build Effective Wire Antennas was written to fill the gap between building an antenna from a pattern which includes all the dimensions and those very dry fully technical books which tell you how to design an antenna from scratch with all the details but doesn't tell you how. There is sufficient technical detail, where required, for you to be able to design your own wire antenna for any frequency you like and have it work as designed. There is practical information about materials to use with a focus on keeping costs down. These are simple designs that anyone with basic tools can build and have working in a couple of hours.

Don't confuse this book with an ARRL publication. It provides solid guidance and scientific rationale for its recommendations, but it is not a slick, glossy coffee-table book. That's probably because it wasn't meant to me. i assume it was meant to be a useful field guide, and I keep mine on my iPad so I can refer to it when I need it. The author has done a good job with this text and Hams should support him by purchasing this book.Product details

How to Build Effective Wire Antennas Edward Bearly eBook Reviews
I am studying for my General exam at this time and as of this point I have not build an antenna as I don't have a rig . . . yet. I don't know how practical this is. But, having read through it I understood most of it and believe that once I actually get down to building an antenna this book will be helpful

A very small book. Has some useful detail but the lack of pictures is really an impediment to getting the most out of it. I'd look at some other books first. Do a search for the Marine Corps antenna field manual, which is copiously illustrated and has incredibly detailed descriptions.
While the book does provide the information to build an effective wire antenna, it is lacking in that it fails to let the reader really understand that there are more than one type of wire antenna besides a Dipole antenna. Though the dipole is the easies to build, other types would have been more helpful. But for the price it isn't too bad.
I got this book on the . The drawings were either very difficult to read or impossible. Although the book was sold as specific instructions for building wiring times, for me, it was pretty nonspecific.
Mr. Bearly set out to write a book that spans the gap between the too simple and the too complex on the topic of antennas. He succeeded. A new antenna builder could take this book in hand and improve his odds of success without being side tracked by things that could wait until later.
I think basically for a new ham operator its ok. The information presented will get someone started to build an antenna and not to worry about perfection. This is not the ARRL Antenna Book so do not expect it to cover very technical information. Just a book in simple terms to get someone enough information to build your first antenna.
Many technical errors and oh so many grammar and punctuation mistakes. Poor sentence structure leaves one wondering what is the author trying to say? I think before you sell any form of publication, you should do a proper proofreading, and fix the misspellings. A good read though, as long as you don't take too much stock in the technical content. Do some homework and understand the theory before trying the instructions.
